Freeflow Writing

Freeflow writing sessions that will help you to generate fresh, spontaneous writing, feel invigorated by new work you have created, and encouraged by feedback from fellow members.

What happens in a Freeflow Writing Session?

In a Freeflow Writing Session, we are not a traditional writers’ group! I am trained to hold creative space using the AWA (Amherst Writers and Artists) writing method.
We write during our time together and everyone receives feedback every week.
We use prompts to foster exploration of craft, spark imagination and memory, and write on the spot during the workshop time itself.
Every member has the option to share their writing, and fellow members respond in support of new writing with feedback about what works, what’s memorable, and what’s strong.
Our goal is for you to leave each session with fresh, spontaneous writing, feeling invigorated by the new work you’ve created, and encouraged by feedback from fellow members.

AWA’s core belief is simple: every person is a writer, and every writer deserves a safe environment in which to experiment, learn, and develop craft.

       THE FIVE ESSENTIAL AFFIRMATIONS

    1. Everyone has a strong, unique voice.
    2. Everyone is born with creative genius.
    3. Writing as an art form belongs to all people, regardless of economic class or education level.
    4. The teaching of craft can be done without damage to a writer’s original voice or artistic self-esteem.
    5. A writer is someone who writes.

and cWe only reflect what is strong — never “wrong” in fresh writing. By mirroring back what is memorable, our responses help to support the development of each writer and bolster our creative practice. This unique approach — developed by Pat Schneider and described in her book, Writing Alone and With Others (Oxford University Press, 2003) — allows for uninhibited experimentation without causing damage to a writer’s distinct voice and artistic self-esteem.

Whether you’re a newcomer or well-acquainted with the AWA method, you’ll discover a nurturing community with an experienced facilitator who honors each writer’s authentic voice and style. You don’t even need to consider yourself a writer to sign up!

The next 4 session group is on Tuesday 24th June, July 1st, 8th and 15th at 10-12pm. These sessions will take place online on Zoom and cost £100 for the four sessions.
